About Save The Date

Your Guide to Events In & Around Lawrence

Tune into WOW! 6 each week for Save the Date, your guide to events happening in and around the Lawrence area. Join host Sheena Shearburn as she helps plan your week filled with art, entertainment and culture.

 Sheena Shearburn (Host)

I have lived in Lawrence for the last 15 years and absolutely love being a part of this amazing community. I have a husband and two young children, and on any given weekend you will see us out and about at the many events this city has to offer.

I have a passion for theatre and being on stage. My most recent appearances have been in The Great Gatsby and The Ballad of Black Jack. I love helping out behind the scenes as well, and being involved with the theatre any way I can.

I enjoy photography, fitness, my church community and being with friends & family. I have many dreams for the future including doing yoga on a sandy beach, performing on stage with my kids, and going on a medical mission trip.

 Brian Powell (Producer)

Originally from Salina, I graduated from KU in 1990 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. By that point, I had interned ('88), worked in production ('89), and finally shot news ('90) for WOW! 6.

I left the station for an opportunity to work on KU's Coaches Shows and served eight seasons as video coordinator for KU's football team and viagra wiki.

I returned to WOW! 6 in 1996 as a part-time production assistant and moved into a full time supervisory role in late '98 directing newscasts and producing River City Weekly...a position that allows me to share an appreciation of the incredible history and culture of this wonderful community.

Away from work, I try to spend time in this state's great outdoors riding bicycles (with my wife and children), reading (to my kids), catching baseballs and dodging snowballs.

Classic Stars to Highlight Kansas Silent Film Fest

Written by
Charlie Chaplin is among the classic movie stars who will be featured during the 17th annual Kansas Silent Film Festival. The free festival takes place Feb. 22 and 23 in White Concert Hall at Washburn University in Topeka. Several short Keystone comedies produced by Max Sennett will be featured. Kansas City film historian Denise Morrison will provide introductions for the films and give an overview of the artists and the era of the silent films. Some films will be shown on 16mm film, while others may be projected digitally, due to the rarity of actual film material. Musical accompaniments will be provided mostly by organists or a five-piece chamber ensemble.

Musicians from Kansas will be honored at this year's Kansas Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Liberty Hall, Saturday, March 2nd. Inductees and performers include Junkyard Jazz, Devastating Dinks, Larry Emmet & The Sliders, Exceptions, Sherman Halsey, Ray Hildebrand, Kerry Livgren, Mystic Number National Bank, Playmate Blues Band, Tempests, Wizards From Kansas, Steve Warner, and Chuck Mead. Inductions start at 7:00pm, followed by live perfromances from the artists.
