LAWRENCE - Hundreds of KU students line the halls of The Phog for a good seat at Saturday’s final home game against Missouri. Many brought their air mattresses, warm blankets, laptops and homework.
On Sunday groups of up to 30 people were able to draw a number that dictates when their group will be allowed into the stadium. All week, those groups are camped out from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. in Allen Fieldhouse for roll call. If the groups miss roll call, they can lose their place in line and be bumped to the end.
The lottery system is solely run by students and has been going on since the 80’s. Students say Saturday’s game is well worth the wait. “We are going to blow the roof off this place," said Colin Belmont, a student camping out. "It's going to be a great atmosphere. It's going to be loud and I'm very excited."
The sold out game is the final border showdown. Missouri announced last year that it was leaving the Big 12 Conference to join the SEC.
