Brownback pushes KU Med Center to improve ranking

By The Associated Press on May 25, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Gov. Sam Brownback says Kansas University Medical Center needs to improve its national ranking even more after rising 15 spots over the past five years.

The governor also says he wants to reduce income taxes because he's tired of hearing about Kansans moving to Texas or Florida, which have no state income tax at all.

Brownback spoke Tuesday during an economic summit at KU Medical Center in front of more than 150 politicians, researchers, doctors and others. It was his third summit after already addressing aviation and tourism.

The Lawrence Journal-World reports that University of Kansas Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little welcomed the challenge to raise the medical center's ranking.

She says the school needs to commit to recruiting more researchers and improving the physical resources at the center.
