A Lawrence apartment complex is temporarily allowed to keep its artificial lawn. The Lawrence City Commission gives a temporary stay for the artificial turf at the Tuckaway at Frontier Apartments.
After hours of discussion Tuesday, the commission decided to table a request to allow the usage of synthetic turf as landscaping material. The issue was raised after the Frontier Apartments installed artificial grass against city code, which requires living plants.
The Planning Commission voted to deny the initial request to change the ordinance, but City Commissioners want clearer language about artificial turf usage. They directed staff to clear up language in city landscaping code. There is no word when the commission will revisit the guidelines.
