LAWRENCE - Auto body shops in Lawrence are seeing an increase in business thanks to all the car vs. deer crashes during rutting season.
Sean Rother says business at Allied Autobody Carstar in Lawrence has seen a 20- 30% increase. So far there have been 132 deer car collisions in Douglas County for 2011.
The good news is few people actually die from deer car collisions. In 2010, there were two deaths. In 2011 so far, there has been one. Experts say if a deer crosses your path you should slam on your breaks and hit the animal rather than swerve because you could cause a more serious accident. Most collisions occur during dusk and dawn.
