Tonganoxie couple recognized for baking cookies

Tonganoxie- A Tonganoxie couple makes their mark on the world by baking cookies.  For more than two decades Helen and Lawrence Eisermann made cookies for highway patrol troopers all across the state to say thank you for their hard work. But they did it in a not so typical way. Throughout the Christmas season they would travel in what they called the “cookie wagon.” They would pull up behind officers who have pulled over other cars or were working accidents. They would wait for them to finish their work and then hand them their Christmas cookies.

Delivering cookies quickly became a tradition. Each year they baked more than 1,500 for troopers all across the state. The tradition came to a startling halt in 2004 after Helen passed away suddenly, but her memory lives on and so do the cookies.

Lawrence will be honored by the Kansas Highway Patrol on June 7 in Bonner Springs.
