Lawrence-  The Willow Domestic Violence Center will hold its’ annual ‘Willow Walk Red Shoe Run’ campaign Saturday at 8 a.m. The center hopes to raise $16,000 from the event. The money will go directly to its shelter where officials say up to 29 people can stay. Last year the center helped over 200 women and children who needed a way out of an abusive situation.

“One in four women in the U.S. will experience domestic violence at least once in their lifetime,” says Joan Schultz, the Executive Director of the center.

Most of the not-for profit’s funding comes from federal grants and generous donations but the annual run reminds survivors they’re not alone.

The walk will start at the Southwest Trafficway Trail and Arboretum in Lawrence, Kansas.
