Wichita Sen. Donovan to seek Sen. presidency

By The Associated Press on June 10, 2012

Wichita state Sen. Les Donovan has announced plans to seek the presidency of the Kansas Senate next year.

Donovan, a Republican, has been in the Legislature since 1993 and in the Senate since 1997. He also is seeking re-election to represent the 27th District, which covers much of west Wichita and part of rural Sedgwick County. The current Senate president is Steve Morris, also a Republican.

The Wichita Eagle reports Donovan and Morris battled frequently this past session over the tax plan. Donovan is a conservative; Morris, of Hugoton, is a moderate.

Donovan previously served eight years as vice chair of the Senate's tax committee and has spent more than 14 years on the tax committees for the Senate and House. He's also served 16 years on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
